Pizza Hut on Tuesday, August 15, unveiled its all-new flagship store at SM Mall of Asia with a fast casual dining concept and additional services.

The celebration was graced by the top executives of Philippine Pizza Inc. and SM Prime Holdings, some media friends, and the reigning Bb. Pilipinas, led by Bb. Pilipinas Universe Rachel Peters, Pizza Hut’s Brand Ambassador.

Now open to serve your favorite pizza, the 385 square meter redesigned store is the biggest in the Philippines with 175 seating capacity, wider dining space, show kitchen, merchandise corner, and new set of menu.

Philippine Pizza Inc. Chief Operating Officer Mr. Phil Reed talks about Pizza Hut's modest beginning and where it is heading

Fifty nine years ago, Pizza Hut started as a small pizza restaurant in Wichita, Kansas put up by two enterprising college students Frank and Dan Carney. The two siblings borrowed 600USD from their mother and used such meager amount to sell pizza in their hometown.

To date, Pizza Hut is the world’s largest and most popular pizza chain with more than 15, 600 restaurants in 90 countries.

Philippine Pizza Inc. Chief Marketing Officer Mr. Lorent Adrias talks about Pizza Hut SM Mall of Asia's dining concept

Pizza Huts popularity is also apparent in the Philippines. Pizza lovers can enjoy its Dine-in Restaurants, Delivery Units, and Express Counters all in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces as well as in Visayas and Mindanao.

For almost six decades, Pizza Hut has retained its popularity by keeping up with the times while staying true to its battle cry—great pizza for all!

"At Pizza Hut, pizza lovers are guaranteed not only of the best-tasting pizza, pasta, and chicken wings, but also of excellent customer-oriented service and that feeling of being in your own happy place with friends and family."

What can we expect from Pizza Hut SM Mall of Asia?

The newly renovated Pizza Hut store in SM Mall of Asia switched from a formal dining concept to a rather fast casual that is easy to access and to avail of.

"What we are offering in our new flagship store at SM Mall of Asia is a more immediate and less tedious dining concept," says Lorent Adrias, Chief Marketing Officer of Philippine Pizza Inc. "The move to renovate and make the store in SM Mall of Asia bigger, better, and a venue to experience the total pizza experience is also made possible by Pizza Hut's strong partnership with SM Prime Holdings, Inc., SM Mall's subsidiary," adds Adrias.

1. More spacious dining space

2. Show Kitchen

3. Tastier pasta, pizza, and chicken to love

4. Coffee and Dessert bar

5. Excellent customer-oriented service from its lovely staff

6. Merchandise Corner

HUE Hotels and Resorts, Puerto Princesa, Palawan: Hotel Review

$

Confession: as soon as the airport shuttle approached Hue Hotels & Resorts' front entrance, I was stunned by the romantic edge of the hotel facade.

I've seen numerous photos of the hotel online and for the most part I found them all to be lovely. But I didn't think looking at the hotel in person would be captivating with all its night lights and design-forward architecture.

I asked the driver to stop the van so I could take photos. Unfortunately, my skill vaguely gave justice to what I saw. I decided to keep the photos to myself.

Subsequent to the failed night photography attempts, the van went on and parked at the hotel entrance. I got off the shuttle. The driver helped me out with my stuff just like what he did when I met him at the airport.

The driver is a chatty type. But I didn't mind listening to him because he was talking about Palawan and the hotel itself. It seems he is very keen on giving guests a warm welcome. Plus, I was the only passenger at the shuttle, I sensed he didn't want that awkward silence.

HUE welcomed me

The lobby is neat and contemporary. The space is finished with clean white walls with some sections brushed with obvious texture, some with artificial wall-mounted plants, and some with 3D bird art. The wall art is inspired by Swiflets, locally known as "balinsasayaw". These birds are found in the towering limestone cliffs of Palawan and famous exotic ingredient in Bird’s Nest soup.

I remembered Changi by Fraser Hotel in Singapore when I saw the wall of balinsasayaw

The check-in counter has colorful triangular patterns. I'm not really sure about the material, but the patterns are also present in some sections of my room.

Two receptionists greeted me with a lovely smile and gave me hand towels and a welcome drink. The check-in didn't take long. Although I insisted on staying at the lobby for  a bit to savor the lemongrass drink and observe more on the creative hotel interior.

Hotel foyer

There are at least five styles of seats at Hue Hotels' lobby. These coloured furniture are comfortable to sit on and are positioned well against patterned wall dividers.

Just before you take the stairs on the right or go further to the elevator on the left, there is the selfie ready HUE letters.

Suite at the third floor

The pretty receptionist told me my room is a Suite at 330. Buffet breakfast is at Matiz and starts at 6AM. She then gave me the key card that says "the key to a vibrant island getaway is with U".

The other receptionist named Angel escorted me to my room.

Upon entering, she began to explain about the room facilities specifically the room service call button. There is no need to hang a room service card by the door, guests just need to click the button for requests.

In my Instagram post, I mentioned that there are many things to love about the Suite but I didn't enumerate.

Now let me tell you about what I love about Hue Hotels and Resorts Suite:

1. Room service requests is faster because of the installed room service button.

2. Vibrant color accents seen on the rattan carpet, pillows, mirror design, toiletries, couch, and compliments.

3. King bed is soft, smooth, fragrant, and has snug pillows and duvet. The headboard is artistic and Instagrammable :p

4. The room is quiet even if the hotel is located along the main road.

5. The room is well-lit with stylish and elegant lamps.

6. The complimentary water bottle is unique.

7. The room has plenty of power outlets, I didn't have troubles charging my gadgets.

8. THE WIFI CONNECTION IS STABLE AND FAST!

9. The bathroom!

I watched TV from the tub

I felt like Kristina Kuzmik in the bathtub minus the wine and overflowing bubbles. That is to say: I was completely relaxed. I drank tea and watched TV while soaked into the tub.

Truth be told, I am a sucker for bathtub. It is among my considerations when choosing hotel rooms because my soul is Japanese! I am kidding. I just find it comforting to have hot bath before bedtime.

I loved the bathroom though I had an issue on the shower room. It doesn't have soap holder and the shower handle was tricky to operate.

PRO TIP: Immediately ask for help

In my case, I tried to figure it out until I gave up and succumb to the bathtub.

The restroom has toiletries that are neither generic nor incomplete.

Pool area

Hue Hotels' roof deck has a pool area and bar for dining, drinking, and leisure. Here, guests need not go out for dinner or night life.

At the bar, there are wide selections of drinks to choose from.

Lounge chairs line up the pool that is lit up at night.

Spa treatment at Amihan

Just past the service elevator is the Amihan Spa. Guests can enjoy traditional body massage in this relaxing place after a whole day of island touring.

Breakfast at Matiz

The buffet breakfast at Matiz is not to be missed. The food selections are plenty. Guests can enjoy Filipino favorites like bagnet, sinigang, tinapa (smoked fish) pinakbet, sisig, pickled quail eggs, pickled papaya, longganisa, etc. Italian, Chinese, and Spanish dishes like Paella are also in the menu. The taste of the food is not to die for but already enjoyable and filling.

The staff are attentive and polite. They refill drinks right away. Clean up the tables and replenish food trays at once.

The interior of the Matiz is everything to me. I like the suspended tables, the mixture of bare and worn-out wooden walls. I'm stunned by the collection of pendant lighting that hangs from the ceiling adding warmth to the restaurant's predominantly rustic interior.

Solo Travel Budget for Puerto Princesa and El Nido, Palawan

$

What is the cheapest budget for traveling solo in Puerto Princesa and El Nido?

I created this post to answer a pressing inquiry from our solo travelers Facebook group. I admit I am mainly too lazy to respond to the discussion thread and I thought this could be helpful to some local travelers too, so I decided to create this quick post.

How much budget do you need to enjoy Puerto Princesa and El Nido, Palawan? Let me list down the expenses to help you plan your trip.

AIR FARE AND TERMINAL FEE

Cheapest round trip airfare with Cebu Pacific would be P2600 from Manila to Puerto Princesa. If you want to head straight to El Nido from Manila, you can take a direct flight with Philippine Airlines which would cost you more.

The terminal fee for domestic flight is paid at Puerto Princesa airport before you go back to Manila.

Local - P 200
Foreigner - P 700

LCC Cebu Pacific at Puerto Princesa Airport

TRANSPORTATION

Tricycle fare from Puerto Princesa Airport to downtown would be P 150 - P 200 depending on the distance. At most, you'd need to pay P 300. If the tricycle driver asks for P500 and you are just going to Robinson's or a hotel close by or to the van terminal to El Nido, politely negotiate.

Multi-cabs get around the city with minimum fare of P 8.00. If you are like my Spanish friend who's fond of traveling like a local, try public transportation such as town tricycle or multi-cabs.

PRO TIP: Look like you know where you are going or like you've been in Palawan for long

Van from Puerto Princesa to El Nido is P 600 per person. The travel time is 6 hours including stops. When I traveled from El Nido to Puerto Prinsesa, it took a relatively shorter time. Ironically, the driver was actually picking passengers along the way. I thought it should've taken us longer.

Tricycle ride from downtown El Nido to the van terminal is P50.00

FOOD

If you are like me who don't eat rice at night, then your dinner can be as cheap as P25.00 for one short order of Adobo or a vegetable dish in a "karinderya" or a street-side Filipino diner.

In some small restaurants, you can eat rice meals at P 99.00.

Cheapest dinner in El Nido down town is at P50.

Water is P20 per bottle.

Filipino breakfast at Austria's in El Nido

ACCOMMODATION

Cheapest accommodation in Puerto Princesa is P 204.00 per night  for a bunk bed with shared bathroom and unlimited coffee.

In particular, you can check YOUR SPACE. The room here is air conditioned. The staff are friendly. You can book a room via Travelbook.ph booking site. You don't need a credit card to book a room. You can pay at the hotel when you check-in.

Cheapest accommodation in El Nido is P200 per night in a camping site that is an hour away from the airport.

In downtown, I recommend AUSTRIA'S PLACE. For a private fan room with shared bathroom and inclusive breakfast, it would cost you P450 per night including city tax and other charges.

If you want an awesome hotel in Puerto Princesa, you can check the stylish, design forward Hue Hotels and Resorts Puerto Princesa. It is not cheap though.

Bunk bed room at YOUR SPACE, Puerto Princesa, Palawan

MOBILE DATA

If you buy a sim card for P40.00, you can register your network for an unlimited internet browsing for 7 days. The cost is P70.00.

ACCESSORIES

I need to mention this because I found this useful. Dry bags for your stuff is sold at P300. But you can just use garbage bag to protect your bags. Some tours actually provide these for the guests.

Smartphone waterproof case is P100.00.

Snorkeling rental in Honda bay is 150.00.

Buko Juice at Seven Commando Beach, El Nido, Palawan

SUMMARY OF EXPENSES

Given the costs I have collated above, you can see in this table a plausible day to day expenses for your solo travel:

You see, if you are a foreigner traveling solo to Palawan and you intend to enjoy the best tours in Puerto Prinsesa and El Nido, you would need P13,859 or around 272 USD

But if you're a local traveler and don't need to rent go pro, you can subtract 1500 from that total cost - and that would be P 12,359. AHHH You can less the souvenir expenses too! So around, P11,900 for a 5 day travel!

USD 272 for 5 days and 4 nights in Puerto Princesa and El Nido maybe cheap for foreign travelers, but HEY things can GET even CHEAPER.

44L CabinZero Bag - Perfect Carry-on Travel Bag

$

For the record, I am not stingy.

My ex used to complain about my fondness for "cheap travels" and lectured me on why I need to adopt some luxury in my "life". Whatever.

If he were a single parent, he'd probably be more lenient toward practicality. That is to say: I am a single mom and I am very conscious about where I spend my money on. And that I am not stingy, I just choose to be economical.

I wouldn't wanna shell out thousands of pesos for expensive flights or private rides... neither for an extravagant cruise nor iPhone 8... But I'd rather for a pair of trainers... and a durable travel bag.

Recently, I've been traveling quite a lot and I realized it's about time I invest in travel blogger necessities such as power bank (yeah I don't have a power bank), a selfie stick (also this one obviously), a go pro, and a DURABLE TRAVEL BAG - preferably not a suitcase!

Kind of tribute to my Floral Yellow Voyager suitcase

Technically, I can still use my suitcase. But IT'S WORN OUT.

I love that Floral Yellow Voyager luggage. But it is bulky and very beach inappropriate. Got it in January of 2015 and had used it every month since. It packs efficiently. But also tolerates my inability to pack light.

Back then, I was a backpacker without THE backpack. I really wished I had a carry-on travel bag I could wear comfortably on my back without straining my shoulders (or ruining my outfit). But I wasn't really keen on getting a black hiker bag and I kind of found the small backpack I gave to my cousin handy and so me - it was mint green...!

Fast forward to the summer of this year, I saw my blogger friends Travelosyo and Terrific Traveler flaunt their travel bags. One has a camouflage design (and his friend's has a good desert sand shade). My friend Mon's has a bright blue color.

All those travel bags are CabinZero.

What is CabinZero?

That was a question for myself. Such a shame! I wasn't informed about this British brand of travel bags. But it's never too late to get acquainted with new things, right?

So I did my research, checked CabinZero website, browsed on their products, and read my blogger friends reviews.

Days later, I received my 44L CabinZero Galactic Green Urban Backpack.

Now, I've become a full-fledged CabinZero brand ambassador and I am listing down here the things I love about CabinZero Urban Bags and why I recommend them to you based on my experience traveling with CabinZero!

CabinZero Bag Features

Cabin sized

CabinZero bags are accepted as carry on by all the major airlines.

If you've experienced lost luggage or the jostling for space whilst waiting what seems like forever for your luggage to come down the carousel then you'll appreciate the fact that your CabinZero bag will never have to leave your side.

Lightweight

CabinZero bags are light! Their classic collection weighs in at approx. 760g and their military collection is approx. 960g.

CabinZero knows there's nothing worse than traveling with a heavy suitcase so they've designed their bags lightweight.

Okoban tracking

CabinZero bags have built in lost and found tags. This ensures your bag is able to be traced back to you in the event it is lost (or even stolen).

The system is also linked directly into the Airline's own baggage tracing system. You just need to register the tag online with Okoban.com as soon as you receive the bag. Your bag then has lifetime protection using this lost and found system.

Spacious interior

CabinZero bags are spacious. With your CabinZero bag, you sure have a lot of room to fit everything you need on your travels.

25 year warranty

Every CabinZero bag comes with a 10 year warranty. If you go over to their Facebook page and like CabinZero then they'll automatically upgrade your warranty to 25 years!

CabinZero Bag Selections

CabinZero has 28L36L42L, and 44L bags that come in different colors and style.

My Classic 44L Galactic Green Bag

As I have mentioned, my CabinZero is a Classic 44L Galactic Green Bag. The color is perfect for my personality and compliments my shocking pink running shoes. The size is big yet not bulky. The shoulder straps are comfortable. My shoulders didn't complain after a few hours of street walking and a traverse to MRT Shaw Blvd station :p

What I love about #MyCabinZero

✓ It is the perfect carry on because it is cabin-sized

Didn't have any trouble with my bag's dimension because it's built for the cabin. The length, height, thickness - fit perfectly in the overhead bin.

✓ It has a built in Global Tracker powered by Okoban

I registered my bag so I am confident I'd easily track it in case I lose it at the airport.

✓ It has YKK lockable zippers

With lockable zippers, I could leave my bag in the dormitory without worrying anyone would steal something.

✓ It has thick padded shoulder straps

The straps are easy on my shoulders. I didn't have difficulty wearing them for a relatively longer period of time.

✓ It has 25 year warranty

I know if something unfortunate happens to my backpack, I can return it to CabinZero and have it replaced — even after I’ve used it. How awesome is that?!

✓ It has 44L capacity and it is lightweight

I need to squeeze in a lot of stuff into my backpack like my lenses and tripod - by the way, I want to say I was able to fit my tripod into my backpack! Amazing - so I cannot rely on 28L bag. I need 44L capacity.

In my recent travel to Palawan, I packed my 6 day stuff into my bag and they fit just quite right:

Camera lenses
Tripod
Clothes
Snacks
Snorkeling gear
Shoes
Extra bag
Toiletries
Make-up kit
Laptop
Chargers
Hair iron
Hat

✓ It is made with strong, durable materials

I know it is early for me to say but I have a strong feeling that it is sturdy and durable enough. My friends also attest to this as some of them got their bags a year ago. Wash the bag and it immediately looks brand new! The material easily dries off! It is water resistant too!

✓ The price is just right

Backpacks in the US usually range from 99 USD to 299 USD. CabinZero is just around 80 USD! I know it is still slightly costly converted to Philippine peso, but with the quality, convenience, and warranty you are getting - it's just worth having!

The Girl with the Muji Hat with her Cabin Zero Bag

Parting Words

I am utterly happy to have my CabinZero bag. My recent travel packing was efficient and comfortable because of it.

I am excited to travel to my next destination with my CabinZero bag. No more baggage check-ins, no more leaving my suitcase in coin lockers. My travel bag can stay right by my side (well on my back) wherever I go, whenever I am on the go.

I would love to say that these past few weeks of fortuitous sips of cocktail concoctions had always been about celebration—the gaiety of making new friends, of surviving the most stressful days, of partaking in a ball, and of reaching new heights in the more important aspect of adult life.

While to me it is all about celebrating, some people drink liquor because they feel well enough to do it. For the most part, they drink to socialize and unwind. And I get it, some people just need that kick to open up and be more social. In my case, I could get drawn to "drinking" in these dim-lit spaces because of the ambiance—chill music, smoke-free, romantic yet cozy.

If you are into fine dining and sophisticated social dancing, check out Buddha Bar in Makati City. But if you just wanna chill and enjoy booze at a classy drink lounge, head to the Bank Bar at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

The entryway to the bar is a quest

Maybe I haven't been to a lot of pubs or bars so I'm saying this. The entrance to Bank Bar is unlike that I picture on my mind. I don't know if it is supposed to be hidden but it's tricky to find if you don't know the place.

Google map would lead you to RCBC Savings Bank Corporate Center where no Bank Bar sign is visible. You have to go to 7 Eleven convenience store, turn left as soon as you enter into the glass door. There is a thick exit door which apparently is the entrance to the bar. There's usually a guy standing by the door. He'll collect any drink or food you have prior to entering.

The door appears to be the stockroom door which leads to the main entrance to the bar. The stockroom itself has a potential to cause sudden apprehension because of the red light filter except that it is a rather small space and goods like Jufran and Yan-Yan are all over...

A few steps later, my friend Tim Tam pulls aside the heavy curtain to reveal the "top-shelf drinking den".

Inside Bank Bar

I am impressed by the smell. I thought bars would smell anything but fresh. If my olfactory sense remembers correctly, the smell of the place has a hint of bergamot. Or is it Tim Tam? No. Probably not!

The velvet sofa and candles on the marble table make the place attractive and intimate. I couldn't perfectly scan the entire place but what I saw is enough to conclude it's a gorgeous place to hang out.

It is worth noting that the tables easily get occupied. Most of them are reserved so better book ahead to secure a good seat.

Due Diligence

Ideally, every human being needs to exercise due diligence. In Bank Bar though, I am not sure if Due Diligence is gender-specific but two things I am certain of: (a) It is not for me (b) Tim Tam craves for it hence our Bank Bar visit.

Due Diligence Bank Bar BGC

Apparently, Due Diligence is among the strongest drink in their menu. It is a whiskey. Tim asked me to try a small sip and I kind of did. The smell is strong. I felt the alcohol evaporate into my system by just bringing the glass near my mouth. So I used a straw. It was not best way to try a whiskey by the way.

Whiskey and other decent liquor are acquired taste for Tim, that, I haven't acquired yet.

The Queen of them all

I must commend the bar staff who attended us that night for recommending an ultimately refreshing drink from Bank Bar menu—the Queen's Park Swizzle. Tim wanted something fruity for me but I didn't mind a minty drink.

I say this swizzle is the queen of them all because it's the only one I have tried. LOL But to be fair, Tim also liked the taste. It has grapefruit, lime, mint, rum, and muscovado syrup but it is not too sweet nor bitter. It has a nice tart flavor but not sour. I could still taste the freshness of it in my mouth by looking at the photo below.

Queen's Park Swizzle

Frequenting Bank Bar

The reason for me to come back here and hang out would be the ambiance. But for booze lovers, I'm seeing it's the wide selection of drinks in the menu—"from akvavit to absinthe, sake to single malts, grappas to gin and an extensive choice of vermouths, tonics, sodas and such," from momentgroup.ph

"Bank Bar has an impressive drinks list that includes inventive cocktails and the widest selection of any bar in Manila—from akvavit to absinthe, sake to single malts, grappas to gin and an extensive choice of vermouths, tonics, sodas and such.

Online reviews also mention that food at Bank Bar don't disappoint. A bit pricey, but netizens attest to the goodness of their Chicharon Bulaklak. If you are an expat and you don't feel like trying this Filipino delicacy in the streets, might as well order at Bank Bar.

Other food choices: pasta, burger sliders, truffle fries, deep-fried mantou, etc...

THE bar

Price Range

The cost of alcoholic drinks start from Php350 per glass. The cheapest drink you can get is coffee at Php110 plus VAT and service charge. If you are dining and drinking here, a budget of Php2000 for two people would suffice. If you are like me and Tim Tam who went here for one drink, Php1000.00 is enough.

Travel Restrictions Imposed Upon DOST Scholars Lifted, Tuesday, June 14

[2017 UPDATE] - Please check the comments section especially THE FEATURED COMMENT. Travel ban is still lifted.

Just got back from my Thailand trip last month. As usual, I didn't secure travel clearance from DOST before leaving yet didn't encounter any problem at the immigration at the airport.

We can enjoy travelling without having to apply for clearance. If you are a DOST scholar and you want to travel abroad, you may travel without applying for any document/ clearance to get through the BI officers. Unless you have other lawful case, nothing can prevent you from travelling abroad!

IMPORTANT NOTE:

You can verify if there is a derogatory record against you that may prevent you from departing the Philippines. I also did this a week before my flight schedule.

HOW:

1) I went to the Immigration office near Intramuros, Manila and filed for a request for verification at the Clearance and Certification Section.

2) I filled out the small form, presented it along with my passport at Window 10. I didn't need to pay anything but if you wish to obtain a certification, you'd have to pay respective fees.

***

The distressing and controversial travel restrictions imposed upon DOST scholars was lifted Tuesday, June 14, 2012,  in a memo released by the Bureau of Immigration Commissioner, Ricardo A. David Jr.

Please refer to the screenshot below for the signed copy of Memorandum.

The memorandum is addressed to the Chief of Information and Communications Technology Chief, Jolly Bert G. Galleon, and Airport Operations Division Chief, Benito G. Se, Jr., stating the removal of the names of DOST scholars from the watch list. Thus, starting from June 19, 2012, DOST Scholars will no longer be required to secure TRAVEL CLEARANCE from DOST nor any document from the Bureau of Immigration to travel out of the country unless the concerned scholar is prevented to travel by some other lawful case.

Indeed this is great news for scholars who wish to travel abroad!

By the way, for those who haven’t applied for their passports yet, you might want to apply now. Don’t worry, you just need your NSO Birth Certificate and two valid IDs. Please don’t use your NBI clearance with travel restrictions as I’m not so sure if you’d be required to present DOST-related documents because of the travel restriction hit.

Let's keep updating one another down the comment section below! Thanks!

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines announced today, October 16, 2017 that Taiwan will allow visa-free entry for Filipinos traveling to Taiwan from November 1, 2017 to July 31, 2018.

Filipinos wishing to visit Taiwan for not more than 14 days will no longer need to apply or pay for a visa; instead, a waiver will be issued free-of-charge at the port of entry, upon presentation of a valid passport with a minimum validity of six months, a confirmed onward or return ticket, proof of accommodation (hotel) booking or host/sponsor’s contact information /or arrangements of tour, travel, visit, events and meeting etc.. Visitor should also bear no criminal record in Taiwan.

Filipinos who would like to stay up to 14 days in Taiwan for tourism activities, business, visiting relatives, attending functions or events can enjoy visa-free entry effective first day of November.
TECO said those who intend to stay in Taiwan for more than 14 days or for the purpose of study, work, missionary, employment and other gainful activities are still required to obtain appropriate visas before entering Taiwan. - TECO

"This visa-free initiative shall undergo a 9-month trial period until July 31, 2018 as part of Taiwan’s goodwill and efforts of the 'New Southbound Policy' to build closer people-to-people exchange of visits," TECO said in a statement Monday.

Other information:

1. Diplomatic and official passport holders are eligible for visa-free treatment.

2. Those who entered Taiwan with valid travel authorization certificates, as well as those with approved e-visas, before November 1, may continue their stay for up to 30 days, TECO said.

3. Those for who did not enter Taiwan before November 1, their travel authorization certificates will be no longer valid, as this "relaxed" visa application systems will be suspended during the 9-month-trial period.

4. Those who have already obtained long-term & multiple Taiwan visas which have been stamped on their passports can still use their visas to enter the Taiwan.

Bank Certificate for Japan Visa

How much do you need in your bank account as show money for your Japan travel visa application? Would it matter if you just deposited in your account a day before you request for a bank certificate? Which bank is best for requesting bank certificate?

These bank-certificate-related-questions for your Japan travel visa application and more tips are provided in this post.

If you are currently planning a trip to Japan, and you are a Filipino national, just like me, yes, you need to apply for a travel visa. If you haven't had the list of requirements yet, check out this post:
How I got my Japan Travel Visa in the Philippines

Answers to your Bank Certificate for Japan visa application questions:

How much money do you need to have in your bank account to apply for Japan Tourist Visa?

As I have advised other readers/visa applicants who have left their queries in the comment section, and based on my personal experience, it is safe to have at least P100, 000.00 in your bank when you apply for Visa.

What if you only have less than P100K?

I know applicants who had only P60, 000.00 in their savings account, and they got their visa application approved. they are a couple who work as government employees. On the other hand, there is a first time traveler, had P60, 000.00 in his bank account, also employed (by a private company), but got his visa application denied.

Would it matter if I just had my account deposited the day before I requested for a bank certificate?

Not really. In the bank certificate, there are only three things that would appear (aside from your personal information): Outstanding balance and age of the savings account. The details of deposits and other bank transactions appear on bank statements not on bank certificates.

Which bank is best?

I don't think there is such a thing as "the best bank for bank certificate request". As long as your bank is legit then it's good to go. I have tried requesting from BPI and BDO in my previous applications.

PASSBOOK or ATM savings account?

Both are fine. Again, in the bank certificate, the total balance is what matters most.

How to request for bank certificate?

Go to your bank. Ask the staff you need bank certificate for VISA APPLICATION (THIS IS IMPORTANT) so that the visa will be addressed to the Japan Embassy and would bear the purpose. Yo'd need to pay a fee of P100.00 for your request.

REMEMBER:
The validity of  the bank certificate should be three (3) months from the date of issue.

Parting Words

Based on more than a thousand comments I have responded in the past 2 years, I am seeing that aside from the amount of money in your savings account, the embassy officers look into your travel history, as well as your employment. I believe they don't want you to seek for job opportunities in Japan or stay there illegally (like what others have done in the past) so they make sure that you will go there for plain tourism purpose.

If you have questions, don't hesitate to leave your comments or message us on our Facebook page. Thanks! One last thing, if you find this post useful, do share!

Can I Get a Hair Rebond after 6 months of Perm?

November 2017 UPDATE: I had my hair treated with rebond + brazilian blowout at Kirei's Beauty salon in my hometown. READ MY POST ABOUT IT HERE. Also I want to share with you a brand that I will be working with in the coming months. Like our my blog fb or ig account to get quick updates!

UPDATE: 5 MONTHS AFTER SALON REBONDING AND 2 MONTHS HAIR COLOR, I REBONDED MY HAIR ALL BY MYSELF USING MONDES HAIR REBONDING SYSTEM. READ MORE HERE

Can I Get a Hair Rebond after 6 months of Perm?

ABSOLUTELY YES!!!

You just need to find a salon who knows how to deal with fragile or damaged permed hair.

I got my hair permed 6 months ago. Here are some photos of my hair treated with TRADITIONAL PERMING. It's not that I regretted getting one, just that recently, the temperature in the Philippines had been seriously high, I felt the urge to remove my curls. Hence I went to a few salons in my hometown and asked some stylists to rebond my hair. As I expected, they all refused. They said exposure to more chemicals will kill the permed parts of my hair so unless I have them cut, rebonding is utterly impracticable. I thought that made sense. I don't want to worsen my hair condition so I was cool with waiting for my perm to grow out.

For a while I got over with my rebonding frustration, until last Tuesday when I met my friend Joy at the dental clinic. Her hair was everything I would want my hair to be in Summer. I must have whined a lot about my hair that she immediately called the salon owner of Queen's Beauty Salon, Ms. Ann Hernia, and referred me. After my dental appointment, I went straight to the Salon and yes, had my hair rebonded and experienced a Brazilian blowout for the first time.

I made a separate entry about the details of my journey back to chemically straightened hair (click here to read). In the meantime, let me share with you the after treatment photo and video :)

So here's my hair after my first wash... didn't use blower or hair iron. Just let it dry
I washed my hair with water (didn't shampoo), conditioned with iCure for about 5 minutes, towel dried, and here's the result:

My hair remained straight. The permed parts didn't rubberize at all. The hair shine is normal but better than what I expected. The strands are soft to touch. The feel is so light... All in all, I think the Hair Rebond plus Brazilian Blowout at Queen's Beauty Salon did some miracles to my head and by far, the best treatment my hair has ever had.

I definitely recommend Queen's Beauty Salon for everyone who has hair worries. Trust me, once you go there, all your worries will go away and you'll be left with an AMAZING hair!

What do you think about getting a hair rebond after a perm? Have you tried it before? Have you used iCure as hair treatment after a rebond? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!

Hair Rebond + Brazilian Blowout for smooth, frizz-free hair with radiant shine

This is an update for my hair treatment.

The last time I got my hair treated was in December last year. I had hair rebond plus hair color and the process certainly made my hair straight but dry.

Several months later, I went back to the salon to tame my waves. They had manifested after my hair grew out the rebonded parts. But this time the stylist recommended me to have rebond plus brazilian blowout. I wasn't sure my hair needed it because the last time I got it, I had perm. But the stylist guaranteed me shiny, smooth, moisturized, healthy hair. So, I agreed!

The process was longer than hair rebond. It took us more than seven hours, with three series of ironing!

I will update this post later but for now I just want to say I am happy about the result. Three days after the treatment, I washed my hair and the treatments didn't disappoint!

I had my hair treated at Kire's Beauty Salon in Angono, Rizal in front of the old Maysha Hotel.

Here is my photo! Again, I'll update this post later I need to run for now!

Ciao!!!

Three things stand out at Geláre in Uptown Mall BGC that need mentioning: (one) its gourmet ice cream is airless, with real flavor and no artificial ingredients; (two) it offers ice cream flavors that are Vegan and Halal certified; (three) it serves to-die-for waffles!

Offering melt-in the-mouth gourmet ice cream that is 100 percent airless and infused with real flavors and no artificial ingredients, plus freshly baked golden waffles, and light hearty breakfast on the menu, it is no wonder Geláre is much-loved in the Land Down Under.

Geláre has been tantalizing palates for 30 years and counting. Presently, it continues to capture the society's penchant for gourmet dessert in over 50 branches spread across Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, and now, in the Philippines.

In the grand launch, the owners and executives of Geláre Philippines conducted the ribbon-cutting ceremony. A priest was invited to bless the grand launching of the flagship store and the rest of the event. Bloggers and press people attended to witness the grand launch as well as to learn more about Geláre, its history, offered menu, and business opportunities.

About Geláre

Geláre is the Italian word for "freezing", the final step in the ice cream making process. It's founded in of the freezing in ice cream. It is a patented trademark for the cafe and has been in the market for more than 30 years now.

Founded in Fremantle, Western Australia in 1986 by Mr. Farid Torabi, Geláre has expanded its range of dessert offerings to include "frozen yogurts, freshly baked waffles & pancakes, coffee, fruit smoothies, and other blended drinks".

Geláre Menu

  • Ice Cream

Geláre has managed to deliver superior ice cream while leaving it with affordable cost. You can get a scoop at P120.

Geláre ice cream is also unique because it is much creamier and thicker than Italian ice cream. It is also much heavier, creamier and more intensely flavored than American ice cream. Geláre is an improved “hybrid” ice cream combining and also exceeding the best qualities from both countries.

Our favorite flavor is the strawberry with real strawberry bits.

  • Waffles

Geláre is also know for its world famous waffles. It is said that the best gluten-free Belgian waffles in Australia are baked in Geláre.

Geláre’s light, fluffy and full-of-flavour waffles are freshly baked on the premises every day using the finest natural ingredients to create products crafted to its traditional recipe, ensuring a mouth-watering waffle experience that’s seriously "crunchy on the outside and decadently moist on the inside."

Served with a range of delicious toppings, you can indulge and delight your senses with a dollop of freshly whipped cream, or two scoops of its premium ice cream smothered with special waffle syrup just for good measure.

Your waffle choices:

Classic Waffle (waffle syrup & fresh cream)
A la Mode treat (classic waffle + 1 scoop of ice cream)
Super Treat (classic waffle + 2 scoops of ice cream)
Maxi Treat (classic waffle + 2 scoops + chocolate sauce)
Banana Split Waffle (maxi treat + fresh banana + strawberry sauce)
Churro Treat (classic waffle + cinnamon sugar + choc sauce)
Mud Pie (classic waffle + Oreo cookies + choc sauce)
Very Berry Treat (classic waffle + blueberries + strawberry sauce)
Ultimate Treat (maxi treat + fresh banana + blueberries + Oreo cookies + choc sauce)

  • Coffee

For coffee lovers, there are also an array of offerings. I am glad to say, Geláre serves Affogato!

  • Fruit Smoothies & Blended Drinks

Hanging around Geláre

There is no wifi inside Geláre but there is an outlet in case your lappy's or smartphone's batt runs out.

The interior of Geláre is serene, not too spacious but good enough to enjoy time with friends or family.

6 Interesting Ways to Save More While Planning for Family Trip

$

Travelling is one of the most rewarding things you can do in life. It teaches you a lot about the world and it can be a great way to switch your mind off from the troubles in your life. Travelling is something young and old should do to enjoy life.

While you definitely want to take your kids travelling, you don’t want it to break your budget. The good news is you don’t have to!

Here are six interesting ways to save more while planning for a family trip.

#1: Create a special vacation savings account

You can save a lot more money if you have a dedicated savings account. Not only does it ensure you don’t touch the money before your trip, it can also help your money grow while you’re planning for the trip.

There are bank accounts that offer a decent interest on accounts that don’t have running withdrawals. This means you can only withdraw the required amount, as your trip gets closer. In the meantime, you can start placing 1% of your income each month on the account and save towards the next trip.

#2: Sell your extra things

You can earn a decent amount of money by selling stuff your family doesn’t even need. You might have old children’s toys, books, movies and even electronics you don’t use any more and which would go for a nice amount of money. You can sell items online – Facebook has a number of garage style groups to join.

Not only are you going to earn a bit of money for your travels, you can also get the spring cleaning done. Get the family involved by making everyone clean a closet or a box everyday and put aside things they don’t need any more. You will end up with a clutter-free home and a bigger travel budget!

#3: Get the right credit card

It’s probably that you use your credit cards quite a bit throughout the year. If you pick the right card, you can actually benefit from all this shopping. These are credit cards that allow you to accumulate airline miles while shopping – when the family vacation is closer, you can use these points to cut down the cost of flights.

Certain credit cards have other benefits, such as cash-back offers. These are another great option for earning slightly while spending money and all the little bonuses can accumulate to a bit of extra holiday money quickly. Just check the terms and conditions before you get started to ensure you’ll actually end up saving money.

#4:Shop smarter

When it comes to shopping, you definitely want to be smarter with how you spend your pennies. Everyone with a family knows that feeding and clothing children doesn’t come cheap. However, you can cut the costs buy taking a few simple steps.

You should consider using online voucher codes from VoucherBin, and compare different retailers to find the cheapest offers. Opt for bulk-buy options and share your shopping costs with friends and people from the neighbourhood. Plan your grocery and clothing shopping in advance to ensure you don’t make decisions on the go – these can end up costing you a lot more money.

#5:Put your stuff to use when you’re away

When you are on the holiday, it doesn’t mean you can’t stop earning money. You could rent your home to a fellow traveller on Airbnb. This can help you make some of the costs you’d accumulate on the trip. Another great option is to rent your car while you’re not using it – it will prevent you from wasting money on the expensive airport car park.

Now, you can even earn a little while on your holiday. You could sell your holiday pictures online and even propose to write a short article on your local newspaper! These can add a bit of pocket money to your wallet and allow you to treat the family to a fancy dinner on the final night.

#6: Travel slightly outside of the box

Travelling outside of the box? What does it mean? It’s essentially picking either your location or the timing slightly outside of the busiest tourist season. This means not going where everyone else is going or booking your holiday at a time when others might not be travelling.

Now, the latter option is slightly harder for families. You often have to plan the holidays around the kids’ holidays so you can’t travel outside the busiest seasons. But it doesn’t mean you couldn’t pick the location outside the box! Instead of spending summer in places where everyone else is, try thinking a destination that’s little different. Travel blogs are great for finding ideas like that!

These six tips are great for saving more while planning for your next family trip. They won’t force you to live differently and you won’t need to eat noodles for weeks. They’ll also help you accumulate enough money to ensure you can have a lovely holiday with the family!

Appreciating the modest beauty of Sabang Beach in Capalonga, Camarines Norte

Every place you will ever visit can be captivating, it broadly depends on your outlook. You can either free the inner kid in you, be cheery and playful OR kick up a fuss. In Sabang Beach Capalonga, Camarines Norte, it requires no effort to enjoy. The unpretentious, unpressured natural hangout is very much conducive to recreation.

A big shoutout to Camarines Norte Provincial Tourism for partnering with Katooga.ph and involving bloggers like me to #CometoCamNorte and explore the beauty of the province. This almost year-end getaway covered the municipalities of Daet, Vinzons, and Capalonga. In this post, let me talk a bit about Capalonga and more about Sabang Beach.

The travel time from Daet to Capalonga was long enough to finish a playlist, take some photographs, and make up for lost sleep. That is to say, it was not boring nor unproductive!

Two hours in the van with fellow bloggers and Camarines Norte Tourism staff flew by quick, thanks to the lush coconut plantations and some interesting scenes from the road.

The sign says "Maligayang Pagdating sa Capalonga!"

When we arrived in Capalonga, we stopped by the municipality's welcome sign. It reads "Maligayang Pagdating sa Capalonga!" which translates to "Welcome to Capalonga!". To our right is the Talagpucao Bay. We couldn't help but take individual photos looking to this beautiful bay.

Capalonga is a third class municipality in the province of Camarines Norte. It's famous for the Feast of the Black Nazarene and Palong Festival held annually every second week of May. The town residents here are apparent devotees, they generously support the construction of the new Parochial Church that is set to finish hopefully three years later.

Capalonga is also know for its hidden waterfalls and beach areas.  What we visited this time is the Sabang Beach.

The bridge to Sabang Beach

To get to the beach front, you need to cross this rustic, narrow bridge. During our visit, many children play around this area. I find it nostalgic watching them jump into the water. I like activities that involve jumping from a high place into the water. To me it is totally rejuvenating.

The real fortunate kids

The children living near Sabang Beach are real fortunate. The beach is just a stone throw away from their houses. They can take a dip anytime, play in the sand anytime, admire the sunrise and sunset from the bridge or from the beach...

In this digital era, mothers like me are very concerned about the time children spend on their gadgets although partly grateful as the gadgets can be tools for education too. I feel happy for the kids living here. They can be connected to nature while staying fit and active.

These children reminded me of my childhood when I enjoyed playing with my neighbors outdoors, catching tadpoles, climbing trees, swimming in the river, running, getting dirty in the mud, and climbing some more trees...

Sabang Beach for tourists

Sabang Beach is largely undeveloped and pristine.

Tourists can come here for camping or picnic but should not expect any available public facilities. You can though talk to any resident and have some arrangements, use their rest rooms to freshen up.

It is also worth noting that there are no restaurants so you better bring your own food or dine at a recommended local diner in this town.

Regardless of the place's shortcomings, Sabang Beach is still not to be missed. What's impressive here would be the fine, powdery sand. It is not white, but it is soft and powdery. The view of the crimson sunrise in Sabang Beach is also notable.

A modest beauty

Sabang Beach is calming, unpressured, pristine, and never crowded.

Parting Words

Even for a professional traveler, a destination is not always about instagrammable sights or the convenience brought by luxury. More often, it's about the sense of joy that comes when you free your inner child and let a good time wash over you. You can be anywhere, with anyone, and still make your trip worthwhile. Travel is, after all, about creating memories and appreciating even the smallest, seemingly insignificant detail... And in the case of Sabang Beach, the narrow bridge, the soft sand, the happy kids, and the coconut trees - that all remind of slow life but stress-free and lighthearted!

Five reasons why I love SaladBar PH

For those of you who know me, you'd probably think I like Salad Bar PH because I am a fitness freak. It maybe true. But more than that, I want to share five notable reasons why I love Salad Bar PH and why I recommend you try it too!

As I grow older, I have become more conscious of what I eat. I try to let go of my fast food fancies and other junks I binge on. Of course, there would be times I would indulge in sweets or oily or fatty food, because they are, well, very tasty and just comforting, but if I can choose a meal I can consume day to day, I would be on the healthier side. Plus points if it is affordable and tasty!

Before our trip to Camarines Norte, I got to try SaladBar PH. Truth be told it was my first time to try it but as I get to know about the company, and got to taste their tasty salad platters, I got hooked!

So here are five reasons why I love SaladBar PH:

1. The ingredients SaladBar PH use for their salad are certified healthy and fresh

The fruits, vegetables, grains, brad crumbs, dressing - all the ingredients of Salad Bar - they all undergo best-in-class sourcing, handling, assorting, and preparing. I am at peace to think that these ingredients are properly handled and prepared from "farm to platter". One great cause of food poisoning is the improper food handling so it matters how the food is being handled and prepared by the seller.

2. It offers delivery service

The SaladBar PH understands the busyness of our life. As stated in their mission:

SaladBar aims to improve the quality of life of professionals by making fresh and quality fruits and vegetables accessible to them.

SaladBar PH wants the healthy food accessible to professionals who tend to neglect the importance of healthy diet and prefer fast food due to their pressed. If you think about it, not a lot of food shops deliver slow-cooked meals or vegetable salad to customers. But SaladBar PH does! It delivers around Makati area. It is very easy to order online and ask for delivery.

3. It is affordable

It is very important that the healthy food we consume daily is affordable. If not, we'd be healthy but broke. Usually, healthy food such as organic vegetables are costly and in most cases tasty salads too. But at SaladBar PH, you'd get healthy salad that's not only tasty but affordable as well.

4. It accepts credit card or payment through Paypal

Another plus point for this salad bar because it accepts credit card and pay pal payments. How convenient is this for freelancers or people who have their Paypal funds?! I am happy that SaladBar has adapted this modern system of payment. I hope in the future the beep card would also be usable for a purchase!

5. It helps Filipinos

SaladBar envisions to be the nationwide leader in providing healthy food selections for professionals through their retail stores, distribution channels, and corporate programs. Clearly, SaladBar PH helps Filipinos by providing a business platform for those who want to start a (healthy) business.

About Salad Bar PH

SaladBar started its operations in 2013 at the food court of PBCom Tower. This is the branch where I first tried my salad platter. From "the humble dreams of two high school friends" who have decided to put up their own business after realizing the lack of healthy food choices in offices, now they have several more branches across the different food courts in Makati, thereby providing more and more office workers the access to quality healthy food choices.

"Although the company is relatively young, its passion to continue the mission to help improve the quality of life of the professionals through the company’s product offering burns. It also continues to reach its vision of being the nationwide leader in providing healthy food selections for professionals through our retail stores, distribution channels, and corporate programs... SaladBar aims to be the nationwide leader in providing healthy food selections for professionals through our retail stores, distribution channels, and corporate programs. It also aims to improve the quality of life of professionals by making fresh and quality fruits and vegetables accessible to them." (SaladBar PH Website)

How much is a salad platter at SaladBar PH?

The price starts at P30! I'm serious! You can have your salad for P30 per 100 grams. But of course I recommend you fill your container to its full!

So I filled mine and weighed my selection, I got it for 190 pesos. But if you check what is inside my container, I feel the price should be more: a lot of lettuce base, two slices of ripe mango, a cheek of peach, lychee, grapes, papaya, parmesan, nuts, macaroni... not to mention the reusable container!
