A Letter to my Dad

I admit that when I started working, I had this unintended neglect toward our bond. For the simple reason that I thought I could always spend time with you. I undervalued time. Never did it occur to me that you’d go first, because you were tough. You are my father.

It’s exactly been a year now since your unforeseen passing. Mom went to the market early in the morning and bought ingredients... Grandma cooked your favorite dishes… Ethan sang a happy birthday song. Amusing, isn’t it?

Last night, I was with your friends. I got to talk to them about you. They were jolly as they reminisced and told stories of the old days, with you.
I felt proud.

I will always remember you as the person who made me piss my shorts out of terror. But we both know you do things in good faith. You made me feel I am super strong. You told me I am tough. Because I am your daughter.

You had always taught me to put God first. I am trying to. And I am trying to remind Ethan the same thing.

I think of you every now and then. I see you in my dreams.

I haven’t gotten my license yet. Nobody’s here to teach me how to overcome my “road fears” the way you do but I promise I’ll take driving lessons this vacation and get my license. There are many things I am working on to accomplish. Some are awfully challenging… But I am determined. And let me just stress that you are amongst my heaviest inspirations.

Daddy, I miss you is an understatement and a fact, just like I love you. But I cannot see you soon.. in God’s perfect time I will…
